RESULTS That speak for themselves.

The film in this first example was shot with some of the last Kodachrome film ever processed. The camera (a 1930s wind-up) and film were selected for their ability to provide the full gamut of issues that we've been helping to correct for over 30 years.

Faded film, color shifts, underexposure, poor color balance, soft focus. We've seen it all. Take a look at what we can do.

COLOR CORRECTION

Available with our 720p, 1080p, and Ultra 1080p Transfers

We designed our scanners specifically to meet the needs of old film. This starts with color. We'll work to bring back as much color as we can.

Over the decades, the dyes that make up the film's color break down, causing shifts in the picture. Film will look overall faded, or certain colors will dominate, with the pictures appearing to be mostly red or blue. With our process, our colorists will push back against those shifts, utilizing our custom built optics paired with DaVinci software.

DIGITAL CLEANUP

Available with our Ultra 1080p HD Transfers

Our Ultra 1080p Transfer includes a Digital Cleanup, which removes or drastically reduces the appearance of scratches, dirt, and dust. It also includes a sophisticated grain reduction and image sharpening.

This level of cleanup has never been available to anyone outside of Hollywood studios and production companies restoring archival footage or feature films. We utilize DaVinci software, the same software that's used to restore feature films, which analyzes every single frame of film and finds and replaces scratches, dirt and dust based on the images in the frames before and after.

IMAGE STABILIZATION

Available with our Ultra 1080p HD Transfers

A certain amount of shakiness is to be expected with old footage, not only from handheld camera work, but registration problems in the camera or movement during film processing. In our Ultra process, we're able to use a sophisticate method to stabilize the picture and greatly reduce the amount of shakiness in the digitized video.

Stabilization requires a certain amount of zooming in on the image to take out shaking. Inferior method zoom in around 30%, meaning they're only capturing 70% of the original frame. With our method, we utilize DaVinci to zoom in only 1.5% to calm the image down, meaning even with stabilization, we're capturing 98.5% of the original frame.

ZERO PULLDOWN

Available with all transfers

When you watch the digitized video of your film, every individual video frame will be created from a single, individual film frame. That means that you can take your digital file, slow it down frame-by-frame, and create a single still image from your film.

If you transfer your film with another company, it is highly unlikely that you will be able to do this. That's because film and video playback at different speeds, and most film transfers alter the frame rate of the film (which was usually shot at 16, 18, or 24 frames per second) and convert it to the standard video speed of 30 frames per second. To make this work, they add what's called a 2:3 pulldown, wherein two additional video frames will be created for every three frames of film. The artificial frames will be created by merging two frames together in a sequence.

By eliminating pulldown, not only will you be able to create a still from individual frames, but the film will also playback cleaner and clearer than it would had the merged frames been added.

CAPTURING THE FULL FRAME

Available with all transfers

When playing your film back, you'll notice pillar bars on the right and left of the picture. This is to maintain the original aspect ratio of the film as it plays back on your modern, widescreen monitor or TV. We won't stretch out the picture to fit the wider TV, nor will we zoom in to fill the entire area, because that would leave portions of the frame uncaptured.

Our gates are, in fact, custom designed to capture all of your film. We machined them slightly larger than standardized film gates, which allows us to push as close to the frame lines as possible and digitize about 8% more of your picture.
